A crack for your software is a marketing tool?

This is a very interesting point of view by Prakash Panjwani, general manager for rights management at SafeNet, which develops security software, said that some software companies "have let piracy continue because it's great viral marketing" - that is, a way of spreading the word about a product in guerrilla fashion. Crack is not a marketing tool, it's a marketing nightmare. If you want to distribute your software free of charge, go on and follow the open source business model (make your software free and charge for custom development, customer support, add-ons and sometimes upgrades). People will think you are cool. They will support you, at least emotionally. If you release commercial software, make your protection as strong as possible.
