EU rejects software patents
from SharewareBlogs
The EU has rejected the new laws for software patents.
In the US, software patents are awarded in a way that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Some patents have no mreits, but are just about trivial things, and block progress and the freedom for developers to build the software they want to build.
The European Union, after massve protest, decided not to make the same mistake.
The rejection was massive: 648 votes against 14.
The major reason for the rejection is most likely that the commission didn't want to follow the recommendations made by the parliament.
